(Welcome to the fandom, were_duck! You will love SGA fandom, and it will love you and your awesome brain.)
I was recently reminded (via a nice comment) of my own slash meta post, which is here. It seems a little reactionary now. I have more things I could say, but I'll save them up for a later post. Possibly a filtered post.
I'm belatedly reading today, and then there is this post by

Edit to say-- One thing I really, really like about my show? Atlantis is pretty. All those greens, blues, golds and oranges. The glass and the balconies. Yes, yes, and more yes.
Check out
angrybunnyman's photos from Jackshoegazer's picnic. Gorgeous, I tell you. (P.S. Jack's pictures can be seen here.)

OK, internet, what do I do here? I am frequently getting a number of gremlin-esque errors:
Gmail, unresponsive script error
Mozilla Firefox (not responding)
Hourglass, all the time with the frakking hourglass!
I've done the obvious things-- defragment, disk clean up, virus scan (I have a MacAfee subscription). What's the next step?
I would also like to delete/deactivate the Yahoo toolbar but I'm unsure how to do so.

*Thank you, Garrison Keillor, for being you.

Today was the perfect summer day. We went to the zoo for
jackshoegazer's surprise birthday party/scavenger hunt/picnic. It's become normal for me to go to parties where almost everyone is an LJ person! My scavenger hunt buddy was
were_duck, who made some hilarious caption-comments regarding the prairie dogs and penguins.
Last night was social SGA viewing and drinking; we also watched Dr. Who, and now I can see why my friends-list is excited about this show. It was pretty darn good. TV is always more fun with friends.

I have been a social butterfly. It's great, but I'm ridiculously exhausted, and I'm not sure I can afford to be this busy. I'm not going to do anything for the rest of the day. Well, maybe a small task for work (something that I brought home, making labels, which is fairly mindless). We have a project set-up on Monday and I'm slightly anxious about working a long day and feeling like I am right now.

I visited my parents this weekend and took a bunch of photos. I still consider this place home, more than any other place in the world. It's hard to come back to my crappy apartment.

There's now a community for the Photography Experience:
photog_xp. Go join! (Image heavy, naturally). I'll be posting pictures there, which means I'll be pic-spamming all of you less (a bit less). This week's theme is animals.
Didn't have much internet access this weeekend!
Taken Friday at work:

Taken Saturday at my parents' place, looking out from the barn:

I'm not super happy with these photos, but I like that I'm taking pictures every day, looking around for ideas, and seeing the world a bit differently. I forgot that creativity functions best with parameters.

The UW Dairy Barn is a National Historic Landmark. It is tucked into a corner of campus and I had no idea it existed, despite the fact that I walk near it every day on my journey to and from work. To my nose the area smells lovely: a mix of sawdust, manure, farm animal. It reminds me of happy days at the county fair. It is all convincingly agricultural, almost rural, despite being smack in the middle of a city.
I altered this photo a bit for better color (using Flickr's Picnik software), the first time I've done so. Pretty soon I'll be Photoshopping, eh? Except I haven't the first clue how to do so.

I am not impressed with my pictures today. I'm v. tempted to cheat and post my Olbrich Gardens pictures from last week, but I will play by the rules. You can see those other pics at My Flickr Page.

In Other News, I'm much less worried about my best friend J. than I was yesterday. I think things are OK. I myself have been feeling kind of down. But I'm looking forward to several things, which is important. From the WTF files, when leaving my apartment this morning, I nearly walked into a homeless person sitting on the landing of the stairwell (I'm on the 3rd floor, of a locked apartment complex with many college-student residents). Mostly I felt sorry for him--it's been cold here. It was below freezing again last night. (Don't tell my mom about this--she'll flip her lid.)

Weird angles, day 3. I'm tired so I just took one of water glass and watch. I'm really enjoying this challenge.

While at work today, I was asked to clean up a steamer and a rusty old steamer table. I had a very strongly negative reaction to the little room these sat in. Sarah Monette uses a word in her books to refer to places that give people the creeping horrors. Does anyone on my f-list remember the word? ETA: Mikkary, I think: thanks littlebutfierce! I felt it today. I could barely stand to be in this room, and when I was done I literally had to go outside for a few minutes. It was strange.

So, to cheer myself up: A picture of a tennis ball stuck in a manhole cover.

A white and gray day today: only a vague blur of brown separates the white frozen lake from the white freezing sky. And yet in the diffuse, white-gray light, colors stand out. The bark of trees and shrubs are rarely brown, but tan, gray, red, yellow, gold, and green. The bright red bundle of berries catches the eye, and the purple-black clusters of buckthorn berries. It's still, quiet, but a woodpecker moves, deliberately, precisely smashing his beak against a tree.
