This journal is mostly friends-only; friend me and I may or may not friend you back (nothing personal). I like to update a lot and I only rarely filter.

I ascribe to "defriending amnesty" meaning I won't hold it against you if you defriend me. I think this is a very fine policy. My friends list is my "read list", generally speaking.

Content includes, but is not limited to:
health and pain management (read: I use this blog to talk about my chronic pain and illness experience. A lot. Which is the main reason for the lock.)
science, science fiction/fantasy, feminism
fan fiction and fandom, including slash - mostly SGA
books and articles
my life in general

I am into liberal feminism, anti-racism, disability studies, and anti-oppression in general. I'm also into fan fiction. Therefore, unlocked posts may feature explicit homosexual sex (slash) and swearing and stuff. usually behind a cut. (Locked ones might have those things too.) Proceed at your own risk.

Shows I like:
Dark Angel, Stargate: Atlantis, Star Trek: DS9, Firefly, The Pretender, Battlestar Galactica, Wonderfalls, Veronica Mars, Due South, Buffy, Angel
Sarah Connor Chronicles

Riding Lesson
by Henry Taylor

I learned two things
from an early riding teacher.
He held a nervous filly
in one hand and gestured
with the other, saying, "Listen.
Keep one leg on one side,
the other leg on the other side,
and your mind in the middle."

He turned and mounted.
She took two steps, then left
the ground, I thought for good.
But she came down hard, humped
her back, swallowed her neck,
and threw her rider as you'd
throw a rock. He rose, brushed
his pants and caught his breath,
and said, "See, that's the way
to do it. When you see
they're gonna throw you, get off."

From Good Poems, edited by Garrison Keillor.
